How to Build Walk Assist Bars For Your Baby

Hi! This is Mara’s dad. After seeing parallel bars used for young children to assist them in walking, PVC seemed like a good option. There were no resources we found with plans for making them for Mara. But we used a few pictures we found and relied on the advice of our friend and therapist Kailee @themovementmama to determine the height of the bars to make this for Mara. Measurements below are based on Mara’s height at 10 months. Kailee suggested the height should be at her wrist when her arms at her sides, which was 12″.

Note: Use ¾” PVC pipe and fittings

Important: there are two different types of ¾” PVC pipe. Important to use the one with the thicker walls (schedule 40). The one with the thinner walls is not sturdy enough.

To Buy:
Total Cost +/-$17 (excluding PVC cutter)
• Ratcheting PVC Cutter (@$13)
• Two (2) 10’ ¾” Schedule 40 PVC Pipes
• Four (4) “T” fitting (3/4”)
• Four (4) “90 degree elbow” fittings (3/4”)
• Four (4) “end cap” fittings (3/4”)

Cut the two 10’ ¾” PVC pipes into:
• Six (6) 1 foot pipe sections
• Four (4) 8” pipe sections
• Two (2) 3 foot pipe sections
