I know, I know. The title is shocking. That is exactly how I felt when I first saw the video from this chiropractor stating that we have been changing baby’s diaper the WRONG way all along. Even more shocking, the incorrect way of changing newborn’s diapers featured on the video may be the cause behind common digestive issues among babies, colic and reflux included.
Feelings are what add color to life. They also tell us all of the important information that we need. Feelings tell us when our surroundings are threatening, when we need to be cautious, when something feels “off” or “not right.” They tell us when we really want something, what our needs are and whether they are being met. Feelings also show what we really care about and who we love.
When Mara was 6-weeks-old, I was interviewed on Despierta America (the #1 morning show in Spanish in the United States) to talk about the release of my book “The Light After Loss”. Once it was shared on the show’s social media channels, it got so much traction as people kept sharing it on Facebook. Eight months ago, it reached one million views and a few days ago it reached two million views.
Do you know how much heartache and tears I could have saved if ANYONE would have told me this? Breastfeeding is not the best thing ever.
One of my favorite tummy time hacks early on is using elevation to encourage motivation! Babies can only see very short distances early on & what they can see is often blurry. They are, however, made to see your face best. So, find a way to get eye to eye—on the couch, kitchen island, or changing table (all with hands on supervision) and watch the magic unfold!
The more I studied as I learned how to help Mara thrive, the more I realized how many lifestyle changes we could make to improve her development. Obviously, anything that I learn and consider good for Mara’s development, I use with my son Lennox, as well. In general, there are two major changes that we have made. I feel strongly that these changes had a significant, positive impact on their mental and physical development.
