Is the Way You Change Your Newborn’s Diaper Causing Colic?

I know, I know. The title is shocking. That is exactly how I felt when I first saw the video from this chiropractor stating that we have been changing baby’s diaper the WRONG way all along. Even more shocking, the incorrect way of changing newborn’s diapers featured on the video may be the cause behind common digestive issues among babies, colic and reflux included.

By lifting the baby’s legs to change the diaper, you are putting the nerve roots that go to the intestines out of place. There is a direct connection between the nerve roots at the end of the spine and the small and large intestines. By moving the baby’s hip, you are pushing a vertebra out of position and causing nerve interference that ends up stopping the flow of information from the brain into the intestines. 80% of our immune system is designed by learning about what our gut has going on. You are creating a lot of gas in that area just because the intestines are not able to process information properly. This is an issue until the baby learns how to crawl because their spine curve changes once they start crawling.

I am mind blown! And, even though neither of my kids suffered from reflux, I definitely wish I would had known this when they were babies! Check out the below video to see an alternative on how to change your newborn’s diaper.
